THE BRICK CITY BLUES

One man cannot hold another man down in the ditch without remaining down in the ditch with him.  Booker T. Washington

Brick City Blues

In a city where negativity brews

Where the energies of frustration and desperation fuse

creating a loss for words, so much for the good news.

Ironically, I’ve seen Blood members singing the blues.

In a city where time changes by the hour

One minute it’s calm, the next second tears shower

Creating puddles of pain, the pavement receives flowers

While candles illuminate a situation that towers

Over a city where at anytime attitudes can ooze

Into the cracks of rationality, when that happens we all lose

Creating a monster as the cauldron pot stews

A mixture wicked in its intention, which path will we choose?

In a city which is ours, holding historical power

Though over the decades we became sour

Where tasteless acts of rage devours

mind frames of young brains, change is about us!

The future belongs to those who prepare for it today.

El Hajj Malik Shabazz

Character is power. Booker T. Washington

Materialistic Blunder

See the man with a master plan

parking his whip on moms land

See that man who can stand alone

with his thumbs doing the talking on that Iphone

See that man ready to ride for the money

miss 2 births and going on 2 birthdays riding with the honies

See that man when time catches up

See that man in need of the family he left stuck

See those blues

Hear that news

Feel that tune setting the mood

for a fall from untimely glory

Groove

To the news that his mind went fool

The guilt built up

Now that man’s on the news

A 10 o’clock Edition of the Brick City Blues

The greatest danger for most of us is not that our aim is too high and we miss it, but that it is too low and we reach it.  Micealangelo

Just Yesterday

When you hear those tires screech

The smoke clears unveiling defeat

Contained by yellow tape and white sheets

Blinded by reality

Only grounded by gravity

Another hood, “it’s all good”, tragedy.

WACS Quote of the Moment

One thing alone I charge you. As you live, believe in life! Always human beings will live and progress to greater, broader and fuller life. The only possible death is to lose belief in this truth simply because the great end comes slowly, because time is long.

W.E.B. Dubois

When They Carve My Name In Stone

The only thing I've ever owned

no strings attached and no debt to pay

I held on to it with total control

The path I paved through countless days

sleepless nights, restless hours, and weary minutes

A story worth words unspoken and unscathed

in the name of liberation

They will carve my name in a stone made for me

yet I am not in a grave

my spirit flies

Remembrance floats so high

that it trickles down

to the many who won't ask why

They will simply accept the presence

of a soul manifested

in the form of a lesson and a blessing

Heavenly I will sit

promoting the gifts of the future

as I did in my present day life maneuvers

When they carve my name in stone

let it be known

Just incase they thought wrong while I was in the physical form.
