THE OBAMA QUARTER

2008 Dear Mr. President 2012

Don’t think it’s because you’re Black that I support you

Even though that fact is a factor, I have to warn you

After this election, accountable you become

to not only US, but to this whole nation you run

Remember Watergate? The history of those tapes?

Make no mistake, they don’t want you to be great, so they might make

Rogue moves, you’re in a chess game with fools

you be the king, matter of fact, just be you

Picture Bobby and Malcolm, John and Martin

paving your path to surpassing odds and margins

Really, do people really know that content of character

plays the greatest deciding factor when people back ya

Even though you had a fiery pastor

composure you held, certainly you quelled the madness

Speaking on race in in America in front of America

the one act nobody attempted since Martin was telling us

In dreams reality breathes a cool breeze

under fire you were never ignited, forcing your critics to breathe

Deeply, in anticipation of defeat, in my mind I see the ironing of white sheets

Even with the progress we’ve made, you’re still a shade too dark

but look who the jokes on, the Thomas Jefferson’s at heart

Now the crossroad is here, the choice is clear

we haven’t had a President in 8 years

The only thing we had was warfare, failing schools, and a frail economy, among others, just follow through on your policies brother.

The issues are never simple. One thing I’m proud of is that very rarely will you hear me simplify the issues.  Barack Obama

“So tonight, let us ask ourselves – if our children should live to see the next century; if my daughters should be so lucky to live as long as Ann Nixon Cooper, what change will they see? What progress will we have made”?

Generation Movement: Part I

Change has truly come
The people have decided
To choose a leader

One who has led us
To look within ourselves first
To seek a purpose

We have grown through this
Momentous history ride
And waged a landslide

Involved we’ve become
In a process we once shunned
Our voices have won

We’ve defeated odds
Indeed we’ve shattered the glass
And broke barriers

But now is the time
For persistence to be bred
Once all the tears shed

Continue to tread
Through troubled waters ahead
We have just begun

For the change we seek
isn't merely victory
Now begins movement

 Generation Movement: Part II

Today begins movement
Yesterday we celebrated America’s outer improvement
Within our borders remain troubled waters
Within our states remain hatred
Within us are the stories
Within our borders remain disagreement, conflict, and isolation
What within us will be pulled out to bring about a changing nation

As we reflect on our pages of history
May we begin to write a chapter a piece
in an anthology of the time the mountaintop was reached
With the belief that we are a long way away from the true creed
We rally the creative
We rally the ambitious
We rally the free

The challenge ahead for us all is a rough one
With society’s ills we can’t help but feel this outcome
will mean nothing if we don’t move
and prove that despite what’s “news”
we want something

From the Outside Looking In (on the RNC)

The economy is bad and the people are being had

news of distractions flash

covering America’s dark past with “Country First” ads

The Republican Convention invitation should have came with a rope

To them, the community organizer is a joke

a portrait of the naiveté of hope

Belittle the content of character

while praising a former actor

Seems to be the picture of a nation headed backwards

War’s attraction energizes a base

unwilling to frame the canvas of its mistakes

The color seemed to be missing from the convention

though we can sure enough see Willie Lynch in the distance

Signs of “Prosperity” and “Drill Baby Drill”

surfacing through the crowd of America’s false ideals

The power is in the people of the Electoral College

but the power within the people WILL be honored

by inaugurating a brother

to change a figurative White House’s color.

If we aren’t willing to pay a price for our values, then we should ask ourselves whether we truly believe in them at all. Barack Obama

Welcome

WACS Quote of the Moment

One thing alone I charge you. As you live, believe in life! Always human beings will live and progress to greater, broader and fuller life. The only possible death is to lose belief in this truth simply because the great end comes slowly, because time is long.

W.E.B. Dubois

When They Carve My Name In Stone

The only thing I've ever owned

no strings attached and no debt to pay

I held on to it with total control

The path I paved through countless days

sleepless nights, restless hours, and weary minutes

A story worth words unspoken and unscathed

in the name of liberation

They will carve my name in a stone made for me

yet I am not in a grave

my spirit flies

Remembrance floats so high

that it trickles down

to the many who won't ask why

They will simply accept the presence

of a soul manifested

in the form of a lesson and a blessing

Heavenly I will sit

promoting the gifts of the future

as I did in my present day life maneuvers

When they carve my name in stone

let it be known

Just incase they thought wrong while I was in the physical form.
